One on One Shadow

Drill helps players learn the back pick. Back picks are unigue to the sport of wheelchair basketball. In a back pick a defensive player changes into an offensive player after a rebound. In order to gain a numerical advantage on offense he/she holds a defensive player out in the back court. When the offense is set in the front court the back picker releases and charges into the front court with a 4 on 5 man advantage.

Instructions

Tell the players the imaginary boundaries which is the sideline and the lane line full court extended. The offensive player tries to keep the defensive player from making it to the opposite baseline. When the defensive player makes it to the opposite baseline they switch from offense to defense and do the drill over again.

Variations

2 on 2, 3 0n 3, 4 on 4, 5 on 5 Basically the same drill as 1 on 1 but with more players. unlike 1 0n 1 These drills are meant to break a fullcourt press. Tip: The defensive players should always recover to the level of the ball so that they do not become an easy picking target for the offense.

Tips

Offensive player should not use the front of their chairs to hold the defensive players (that would be a foul). The offensive player only needs to get in the way and slow the defensive player down. The less chair contact the better. The offensive player should have his back to the defensive player, push foward and make small adjustment to his/her right and left.

Skills

Offensive strategy and Conditioning.
