21 Up

Instructions

Players line up one behind the other on the free throw line facing the basket, player at the front has a ball. The first player throws the ball against the backboard, the second player has to catch it and so on. Once throwing the ball the player has to reach the back of the line before his/her turn again.

Variations

Initially the target of catches without the ball hitting the floor should be 21. This can be dropped or increased depending on the skill level.

Also make the point the player has to reach before joining the back of the line further back down the court for players of higher ability.

Tips

Plenty of encouragement. This drill is as much about communication as the actual skills themselves. Players should be encouraged to let the guy in front of them know where they are, thus allowing better placement of the pass off the board.
