Blitz

1 defender starts out under each goal. a line is formed at the half court line on each side. 2 players with a ball start on one end of the court and go across halfcourt to attack the bucket on a 2 on 1 break. As the ball crosses halfcourt a defender from one line or the other runs out and must get a foot in the halfcourt circle then pursues the ball to help the lone defender. Alternate the lines by designating which line will help on which end that way each line only pursues when the ball goes one direction. Offense shoots until they score or the defense gets the ball in which case they start back the other way. Offense stays, one goes to a line one stays on defense

Variations

  • You can also run it so that the defense only gets to go if they stop the offense from scoring.

Tips

  • Make the line defender get a foot in the circle before helping. Defender under the bucket cannot come out of the lane after the ball. You have to stay in and try to force a pass or a jumpshot. The offense will learn that on a fastbreak with an advantage you have to attack the bucket or the defense will get back. Defense will learn how to defend against a fastbreak until help gets there.

Skills

Running a 2 on 1 break and helping on the break on defense
