Basically it’s a way to practice being chased, high speed layups, and full court sprinting.
Put the team into two lines. One line should be twice as long as the other as two players will be running as a team. The lines start at the right and left corners of the baseline. The longer line is split into groups of two.
The player with the ball, or player 1, runs toward the opposite hoop. The second player, or player 2, chases player 1 after giving them two dribbles (or less).
While the longer line is running down the court towards the hoop, a single player from the other line, player 3, makes a beeline to his or her opposite corner of the court, does a pushup, and begins running back to the hoop.
Player 1, now having made the basket, runs to the outlet and waits for player 2 to pass them the ball off the rebound. They then pass this ball to player 3 who is now headed down the court.
The next group goes as soon as the first group clears the court. Player 1 becomes Player 2, Player 2 become Player 3, and Player 3 becomes Player 1.
Continue the drill until every player has ran each position twice, then switch sides.
Punishment for laziness, missed layups, etc.
Do not overdo this drill as it is killer for the players. Tell the players that the harder they work in the drill the shorter it will be.
Don’t be afraid to punish laziness; a team is only as good as it\‘s laziest player.
Conditioning, layups, transition.
