Team Knockout

A timed drill to have fun with. Not to used as a warm up drill.

Instructions

Divide players into 2 teams (same number on each team) and close to equal skills, at each end of the court. Start with a right hand lay-up on the right side (#1) end with a left hand lay-up on the left side (#5). The right elbow is #2, free throw line is #3, left elbow is #4. Teams pick the order in which they start.

Total team time is equal to the number of players times 30 seconds (3 players = 1 1/2 minutes) One shot per spot in number order and each shot is worth 2 points.

Teammates may position themselves to get the rebound and deliver a good pass for the next shot. When the 1st person finishes the next should be in positon to start. Most points in time wins. Losers run a gut buster.

Variations

® side – 2nd block is #1, elbow #2 (L) side – elbow #3, block #4. Bring 2 players from the opposition to alternate on defense. Teammate or coach at top of key w/ball. Player posts the defender to get the pass, faces and drives or shoot the “J”. Still timed. Defender #1 takes 1st player and then rests & defender #2 takes the 2nd and they continue to alternate. Losers do push-ups or situps. Defender must stay with the shooter and not cheat to the next spot.

Tips

Stress triple threat position with or without a defender as well as good offensive post position and defense position.

Give players a water break after this drill.
