6 man press

This is a good drill to help build players confidences when they are going to face tough full-court presses in games.
This is a drill used by the Minnesota Gophers and many other Division I colleges.

Instructions

What you do is you have your offensive team (usually the best players) and their job is to break the press of the defensive team, except the defensive team is made up of 6 or 7 players.

Tips

  • It is hard to find a good defense to practice presses against for your main 5 players since they should be the best on the team they should be able to break a normal 5 man press against your substitutes, but when you have 6 or 7 going against them it will be MORE difficult. They should have a tough time at first but as they get better at it, they will feel that much more confident against the tougher presses that they will face.
