Defense

Offense wins games, defense wins championships. Playing defense is a skill like everything else. It requires skill, understanding of the game, and dedication.

There are 105 basketball drills in this category, and the newest ones are listed first.

Cut of baseline

Coach dribbles the ball going to the basket, but you are taking the baseline. Tell the player to get the closest foot and put it on the out of bounds line, and take the other foot and put on the other side of the coach.

Monkey in the middle

This drill teachers players to keep their hand up on defense. The player must use his hands and feet to deflect or steal the ball. (I know that kicking keeps the ball with the offense but the idea is to try and break up the play). This is also a good conditioning drill and passing.

Block party

Player 1 (offense) starts at the right side going in for layup. Player 2 (defense) starts in front of basket and jumps but floats by offense swinging with his left arm. This way he doesn\‘t get called for body.
