Four Ball

Half-court drill combining defensive slides, passing and catching.

Instructions

4 players on the baseline, each holding basketball, 13 feet (width of lane) apart. Other line at sideline, FT line extended.
From the sideline, players jumps in court, squares to the receiving line. Nearest player on baseline passes ball to rcvr, who then returns pass and slides into the court, parallel to the baseline. As each passer recieves pass back from player sliding, he puts ball down and then slides to the next passing position. 1st passer moves into the rcvg. line on the sideline. When the reciever completes his 4 passes, he then goes to the last passing position. Next sideline player jumps into the court to his slide as soon as 1st passing position is replaced.

Variations

Start with chest-to-chest passes. Two-handed overhead passes work well, too. Bounce passes are tough for youth level players.

Tips

Reciever does not stop moving. Do not cross feet when sliding and eyes up.
Make it competitive by timing how long before first drop, or count drops in a pre-determined time limit.
Good way to practice fundamental skills. Younger players love this.

Skills

Footwork and passing.
