Fast break

Drill to help get in shape and to help with fast breaks.

Instructions

Divide your team in two, half at each end of court. One coach under each basket with ball. Say “go” and one player on each side takes off towards other end. Coach throws the ball ahead of the player running towards other end. Player has to catch up with ball and make a layup or shot. Once shot is made next player takes off and coach does same thing. Sides rotate from end to end.

Variations

Take some of your team and have them in the half court circle. When the player going for the ball crosses over half court, one player in the middle becomes a defender. His job is to keep the offensive guy from getting the ball or prevent the shot. The person who made the shot goes to defense and the defender gets into line to run down the court.

Tips

Very tiring drill. I do this for about 10 minutes after warmups. Then again before the end of practice. It has helped a lot during our games.
