The D and O drill

Use the full court to improve defense, shooting, passing and endurance.

Instructions

  • Use the full court. Have the team line up opposite corners of the court.
  • Defensive slide diagonally from the corner to the opposite half court line, pivot and D slide to center court, back pivot and sprint to the key…
  • Another player will pass the ball to the running player for a layup or pull up jumpshot.
  • Repeat numerous times.

Variations

Have players D slide the entire court and sprint back to the side they started on for a shot to provide more endurance training.

Tips

Focus on good defensive slides, run at game speed and work on making layups and jumpers when fatigued. A coach can also contest the layup or shot at each end to make it more game realistic

Skills

Defensive slides, defensive change of direction, endurance, shooting and passing.

Players

Can be done with 2, but 6 or more is best.
