Ballhandling

Probably the most basic of basketball skills, but sometimes the most neglected. These drills will show you how to develop ballhandling skills. Remember that weak hand!

There are 145 basketball drills in this category, and the newest ones are listed first.

Think fast

The defender forces you left or right. Dribble with the hand the defender is forcing you to. Go in strong and cross back over and take a shot, or go in. Trust me, it works. I’ve done it plenty of times, it caught my defender off guard.

Look up!

First you need two balls, have one ball in both hands. Now the ball in your right hand is the shooting hand and the ball in your left hand is the dribbling hand. First, start off with dribbling hand, get used to it and then start shooting with the shooting hand. Now you know you’re not supposed to look down when you’re dribbling so keep your head on the ball you’re shooting with. Have your coach or partner get the rebound and pass the ball to you. While they get the rebound keep your head up try to make 5-10 shots without LOOKING DOWN AT THE BALL. Your arm may get sore if does then stop. THIS DRILL HURTS.

Pay attention

Have one player stand with a tennis ball in hand while another player dribbles a basketball. The person with the tennis ball will then toss the ball to the dribbler underhanded and the dribbler will have to switch the basketball to his other hand and catch the tennis ball. He will then throw it back and repeat.

Spider drill

Start in a standing position but in a good low stance. Ball is in both hands and between your knees. Drop the ball and dribble with your left hand, then your right, your next dribble should be with your left hand but you reach behind your left knee, and then your right hand behind your right knee, then left hand in front, right in front, left behind, right behind…..you get the picture. At first you will have to look but as you get better you should be able to keep your head up.
